My Review

“ A coward, ’ he declined with dignity, when he'd stopped coughing and had got his breath back, ‘ dies a hundred times. A brave man dies but once. ”
― Andrzej Sapkowski, The Time of Contempt

"In 'The Time of Contempt,' an intricate web of distrust and political machinations unfolds as kings scheme against wizards, wizards manipulate monarchs, and kingdoms plot against each other. Nilfgaardian spies infiltrate, and tensions escalate between non-humans and humans. Amidst this chaos, the central figure, Ciri, is entrusted to Yennefer by Geralt to harness her sorceress potential. However, Ciri, yearning for her Witcher roots, rebels when Yennefer plans to send her to a sorcerer's school. A chance revelation leads Ciri to Geralt, triggering a difficult reunion with Yennefer.

Despite initial thoughts of separation, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri decide to stay together. Yennefer's attendance at a Wizard's Guild gathering becomes a turning point. Amid festivities, a coup ensues, separating Geralt and Yennefer. In the ensuing chaos, Geralt faces grave danger, Yennefer disappears, and Ciri vanishes from her safe haven. The narrative weaves through intricate plot developments, marked by assassinations, wars, and rapid change.

'The Time of Contempt' emerges as a thrilling second part of the trilogy, building upon the groundwork laid in 'Blood of Elves.' The pace is relentless, mirroring the energetic spirit of Ciri, a vibrant character who resists sitting still and craves involvement in unfolding events. Her bold move to reunite with Geralt sets the stage for a cascade of actions.

The novel is aptly described as 'fast,' reflecting the whirlwind of events occurring simultaneously. Amidst the intricate political landscape, Ciri embodies the urgency and restlessness of the narrative. As a teenage girl, her confidence and energy are enviable, hinting at her potential as a formidable force if she survives long enough to find her balance.

In summary, 'The Time of Contempt' captivates with its web of trust issues, political intrigue, and dynamic characters. The relentless pace and multifaceted plot make it a compelling continuation of Geralt the Witcher's saga, setting the stage for further exploration of destiny, sacrifice, and the enduring power of relationships."
