“Fate controls only the weak, Your Highness. The strong mould the providence the want”

― Amish Tripathi, The Secret of the Nagas

After the grand success of the Immortals of Meluha, the second book of the Amishverse called The Secret of Nagas ( The Shiva Trilogy 2 ) was released on 12 August 2001. The interesting fact about the book was that Amish Tripathi started writing the second book while the first was being released. Banking on the popularity of the first book of the series, Amish tried to reach a wider audience by releasing two theatrical trailers in cinema halls, so that film-watching audiences can also relate to the book.

The efforts of the Amish showed the result and the book was in high demand before its release, with 80,000 copies pre-ordered. The book quickly made it to the list of top bestseller books, selling 95,000 copies in the first month only, before going for a re-print. As of June 2015, over 2.5 million copies of the Shiva Trilogy have been sold at gross retail sales of over ₹60 crores.

                           The secret of Nagas

My Review

“Search for Good. And you shall find Evil as well. The greater the Good, the greater the Evil. Veerbhadra”
― Amish Tripathi, Secret of the Nagas

The story begins from where it left off in the first book while Shiva trying to save Sati from the Naga soldier. Shiva saves his wife from the Naga but the Naga ran away leaving a few coins behind. Examining the icon Shiva comes to know that Coin belongs to the ruler of the land of Branga. To get more knowledge about Nagas, Shiva and Sati go to Kashi, with their crew. Shiva's son Kartik is saved by Naga medicine.

In Kashi, they come to know many shocking facts about Nagas, Sati's twin sister and her firstborn son. The book revolved around Shiva's journey to find the Nagas and to know the real truth about them. In this book, we come to know about the real character of many people including King Daksha, The secret Naga who attacked Sati, as well as many other important people.

This book tries to showcase the other side of the story (The Nagas ) who are considered an enemy by most people of ancient India and whether the war that Shiva is fighting is the war between Good vs Evil or Shiva is being deceived. The book reveals the story of darkness.

The Best Part that I like about Amish books is that they tapped into the Hindu mythology that has many stories to tell but not many mouths to narrate them. Amish is among India's first authors to do it. The way in this book many new mythological characters are introduced like Parshuram, Kali, Ganesha, Bhrigu and many others. The suspense created in the book is also very intriguing.

If you are a person who liked the first book of this part, you are up for a very charismatic and gripping story.
