“Why should any guy want to be only friends with a girl? It’s like agreeing to be near a chocolate cake and never eat it. It’s like sitting in a racing car but not driving it.”

My Review

“We sat on the floor for dinner. Ananya's father passed me a banana leaf. I wondered if I had to eat it or wipe my hands with it.”
― Chetan Bhagat, 2 States: The Story of My Marriage

The book revolves around the life of  Krish Malhotra and Ananya Swaminathan who hail from two states of India, Punjab and Tamil Nadu, respectively, deeply in love and want to marry. The story starts by taking us into IIM, Ahmedabad where Krish meets Ananya and describes her as the best girl in the batch. They soon become friends and then their friendship turns into love. After their college ends and both of them got their dream jobs, Krish purposes to Ananya and decides to get married but now they have to face the elephant in the room of convincing their parents.

Krish, in order to win over Ananya's parents, moves to Chennai and then the plot revolves around the struggle both of them have to face to keep their relationship alive in spite of all of their cultural differences and this has been very well depicted in the book with a slightly humorous touch which the audience of this book will really enjoy.

This book will be very much relatable to every couple in India and that is the beauty of Chetan Bhagat's books, he writes for the people of India which is depicted by the simple language of the book as well as the story which seems every Indian could relate to. This book in particular will showcase to the readers how cultural and regional differences between couples can be a deal breaker in marriages and the fear of families for marrying their children outside their community.

For Chetan Bhagat fans this book as usual contains a great Indian story about Indian Youth with some topping of Chetan Bhagat-style humour.😊
